VelvetAmsterdam is perfectly situated. It’s only a 5 minute walk from the iconic Dam Square and the Royal Palace.

Our building was constructed in 1930 after the original structure burned down, featuring classic Dutch-style townhouses. The room is on the first floor of a renovated canal house, which spans four floors and overlooks a beautiful canal, offering lovely views. Please note there is no elevator.


The cozy yet elegant room measures 24m² and is situated at the front of the building. It features large windows that bring the outdoors inside, creating a bright and spacious atmosphere. The room includes a private shower and toilet, accessible directly from the room. For your comfort, it is equipped with air conditioning, a TV, a king-size bed, a fridge, and coffee and tea facilities.

The Oudezijds Voorburgwal is a canal that runs through the middle of Amsterdam's close to Amsterdam Central Station. Our Neighborhood is also a grand showcase of historic Dutch architecture, with over 100 individual national monuments dotting its length.

A brief history of the Oudezijds Voorburgwal

The Oudezijds Voorburgwal was once just a tributary to the great Amstel River. That was until medieval city planners dug out the beginnings of the canal seen today while raising ramparts to protect Amsterdam in the 1380s. Roughly speaking, it kept the same orientation for centuries after that, but really became outlined when the Dutch Golden Age got into full swing in the 1600s. Then rich merchants came and built their fantastical Flemish mansions on both sides.
